		<description>Wow, what great insights about The Age of Innocence!  I must admit, this is not my favorite Wharton, but I&#039;ll have to go back and reread it now that I am more familiar with her work and life.  I completely agree with your assessment about Newland -- he would have never have been happy with Ellen.  He liked to think he was different, but in the end he would have been miserable and blamed it all on her. 

 I would love to read what Gore Vidal wrote about Wharton -- do you have a link?</description>
