The Trossachs – jigsaw puzzle

jigsaw puzzle

You know it’s still winter when you’re still in jigsaw puzzle mode. It’s too cold for gardening and you don’t want to spend all of your time reading and jigsaws somehow fit the bill.

I just had to buy this one of The Trossachs, because it’s just about my favourite part of Scotland and I also love the artwork which features in these old railway posters, plus this puzzle came with a print of the scene which I can frame and add to my wee collection of reprint British Railway posters. The artist was John Littlejohns and it was painted in 1930. You can see more images of his work here. You can see more images of The Trossachs here.

Somehow when you see the puzzle all finished, it doesn’t look like 1,000 pieces, but it is. I could hardly fit them all on to the table to begin with – now for the next one!

  1. What a beautiful part of the world! I remember vividly a trip there as a child; I travelled all around the area with my parents, staying in youth hostels. I was totally captivated by the lochs and mountains.

    • Karen,
We used to go there quite often when I was growing up because we lived not too far from there. It’s a bit further to go from where I live now, it’s part of that ‘west’ which I’m pining for!

  2. I really enjoy jigsaw puzzles in the winter too. My card table goes up with the Christmas tree and comes down well after!

What a great image–I’ve never heard of the Trossachs, but I also love RR posters. In fact, my office calendar is of RR poster reprints.

    Good job on the puzzle!

    • JaneGS,
I’m using the table I had our tree on, it’s a leather topped table which swivels round and folds out to double the size, becoming a tea table and is very handy for the puzzles. Walter Scott was very fond of The Trossachs and based many of his stories and poems in that part of Scotland.
