The Guardian review section this week has an article about Dodie Smith’s I Capture the Castle by Evie Wyld in it that you might be interested in reading if you are a fan, you can read it here. I enjoyed the book when I read it for the first time fairly recently – probably I would have loved it more had I read it when I was much younger. I have since enjoyed some of her other books even more.
Apart from reading the Guardian I’ve been busy touring around with Peggy, with Jack doing the driving. You can read her post on Cove here.
I Capture the Castle is my favorite book, after Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. I read it when I was a weird teenager who was writing poetry and dreaming of being a writer. I wafted around outside at night in a pair of riding boots and a short tunic, wishing our semidetached was a castle.
Joan,
You must have been a scream. I suspect if I had read it as a youngster I might have been very similar!
Katrina, thank you so much for sharing this. Much food for thought – and I really wish I had read this article before reading the book!
Sandra,
Me too!
I loved reading this book several years ago, but the article makes me want to read it again. Like the comment above, I wish I had read the article first! I so now that there is so much more to appreciate about her writing.
Paula
Paula,
Yes I thought that too, I think there are bits of it I would appreciate more now. You should read some of her other books if you haven’t already.
