Bookish Links to the Guardian

There are quite a few interesting bookish articles in this Saturday’s Guardian.

You might be interested in reading le Carre on le Carre from the Weekend section. I think we have all of his books but I have yet to read any of them.

If you’re a fan of Val McDermid you can read an article by her here.

There’s an article on Ann Patchett here.

There’s an article about a biography of Beryl Bainbridge here.

There’s an article on a book about Monet’s waterlily paintings, read it here if you’re interested.

I have a feeling that most bookish people are inclined to be shy, as I am, so if that describes you too you might like to read this article – Shrinking Violets: A Field Guide to Shyness by Joe Moran.

  1. What a lot of links! Thanks for sharing. I especially liked the one by Val McDermid on what her writing days are like and the one about Beryl Bainbridge. Because I’m a fan of Alice Thomas Ellis, a.k.a. Ann Haycraft, I knew a bit about Bainbridge’s life. I might have to look for this biography, though.

      • Judith,
I haven’t read anything by Ann Patchett, maybe I should. I’ve been meaning to read le Carre since Tinker Tailor was first televised, but still haven’t got around to it.

  2. I check The Guardian every Sunday for their book section. Sadly, many of the American papers have dropped this section. Thanks for all the info.

    • Lorraine,
I hadn’t realised that some US newspapers had dropped the book section. I think some make you pay to read online. Jack likes a real newspaper so he continues to buy it.
