Last week we visited a booksale that occurs just one weekend in the year and the books in the photo above are about half of my haul.

As often happens- when I got home I realised that I already had a couple of the books, but not to worry I can pass them on to someone. The Lowlands of Scotland is one of them and my original copy doesn’t have a dust-jacket, I relly like the cover so I’m pleased I got it anyway.
The Patricia Wentworth book is a modern paperback but it looks like they have used an original cover from around 1937 when it was first published.
I’m particularly looking forward to reading the Steinbeck and Shute books. Have any of you read any of these books?
That must have been a fun book sale. I’ve read the Heyer and the D.E. Stevenson and enjoyed both. I am envious of your Margery Sharp acquisition since I am newly obsessed with her books. I don’t have that one yet. I will be eager to hear what you think of it.

It was a great sale, I was much luckier than I thought I would be, there weren’t so many old ones last year. I read some Margery Sharp books back in the year dot I’m sure, but can’t remember which ones.
Their lovely old books! The cover on The Lowlands of Scotland is gorgeous! Haven’t read any of them.

I bought it purely for the cover as I was fairly sure I already had the book – and I was right!
I have Requiem For A Wren here, it’s been twenty years since I looked at it though. I enjoy Nevil Shute’s spare yet evocative style of writing.

I hadn’t read anything by Shute until last year and then I read quite a few of his books. I’ve really enjoyed the ones I’ve managed to get a hold of.

Requiem for a Wren is one of the Nevil Shute books that I just cannot get on with, despite multiple attempts. I’ll be interested to see what you think of it.

I’m now intrigued as I’ve enjoyed his books and I’m quite taken by the title. I’m planning to read it soon now.
What a great stack of books! I haven’t read any of those books, although I’ve read other books by several of the authors. I’m reading the hilarious The Grand Sophy by Georgetter Heyer and like it very much. It’s the first Regency Romance I think I’ve read since I was a teenager.

Everyone seems to love The Grand Sophy so I’ll definitely have to look out for a copy as you and I have very similar bookish tastes. I could be doing with a hilarious read at the moment!

It might be quite a wait for some of them – such is my TBR pile!
The only one I’ve read is Sweet Thursday by John Steinbeck which is pretty good but I preferred Cannery Row which precedes it. If you haven’t read that one I would recommend reading it first (it’s short and delightfully funny).
I’ve read other books by Stevenson and Heyer but not those two. And Margery Sharp seems to be all over the blogosphere so I do want to read her someday!

I read Cannery Row last year (as well as other Steinbecks) so I’ll be reading Sweet Thursday soonish. Yes I had forgotten Margery Sharp until recently!

I must read more books by Nevil Shute. Some of the most memorable books I’ve ever read were written by him: On the Beach (have read it 3 times), the one about Alice Springs (2 times), and Pastoral. More, more! Thanks for the inspiration.

As you will see, I’ve posted the other half now. Amazingly I managed NOT to buy any books at the Oxfam bookshop in Perth yesterday. I’ve really liked the Shute books I’ve read so far.
