RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show

I’ve been enjoying watching the BBC’s coverage of RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show this week. If you haven’t managed to see any of it click the link if you want to see some lovely plants and gardens.

In my own garden this week I’ve not been doing an awful lot, just dead-heading really as it has been too hot here to do anything much more taxing – and I never thought I’d say that as I really thought that our summer weather had disappeared forever!

I’ve been spending a lot of time reading, so this week I decided to begin reading King Hereafter by Dorothy Dunnett. It’s 720 pages long with quite small print and I hate reading books over a long period of time so I planned to read around 100 pages a day, and I managed that although some days I could hardly put it down so read even more. With the World Cup football on TV and Jack watching three matches a day – a great read was the perfect distraction for me – and it was a great read. But more about that next week.

  1. I read King Hereafter last year. It was enthralling. It was been so ridiculously hot here that I have not wanted to do anything outside at all. Thank goodness for air conditioning.

    • Jennifer,
I don’t often re-read books but I suspect I’ll be returning to King Hereafter again as I enjoyed it so much. We tend not to have AC in the UK as our summer weather usually amounts to three hot days followed by a thunderstorm. We just have all the windows and doors open!

  2. I just wanted to say thank you for your blog. I genuinely enjoy reading it and I often seek out the books you recommend. Here in Australia, it’s a lovely 24 deg C, which is warm for mid winter. I once saw a poster that said something along the lines of “it’s cold and wintery outside, perfect weather to stay inside with a good book. It’s too hot and sunny outside, perfect weather to be inside with a good book.” ?

    • Rebecca,
I’m so glad you’ve been enjoying visiting “Pining”. I often worry a bit about recommending books as everybody’s reading experience is different. I hope you’ve enjoyed any that you’ve tracked down.
The hottest it’s been here is 28 C though elsewhere in Scotland it got to 32 C which is a record.
Thanks for looking in and commenting.
      Katrina
