In case you don’t know who Grant Stott is – he’s a DJ on the local radio station, Radio Forth which is based in Edinburgh. I found him singing his version of Sinatra’s That’s Life on You Tube. I think it’s quite funny and you can get a wee glimpse of some places in, and people from Fife too.
What a giggle! In the 70s we used to sing a song about Fife – It was a lad fae Kirkcaldy who taught us it!
Fife’s got everything, just the place for towrists.
See the bonnie pit bings staunding in a row.
Crumbs I can’t remember it. The last line of one of the verss ended in ….bingo and chips!
Just googled it and got this! http://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=5683
Evee,
Thanks, I haven’t heard that song and our boys went to school in Kirkcaldy so it must have died out. It’s funny though and very unusual because people from Fife are usually besotted with the place!
I think it’s because a lot of the bad things have gone now and as Glasgow’s motto used to say, “It’s miles better” now. The song was written in the late 60s or thereabouts and Fife wasn’t always that nice then!
Evee,
Fife isn’t all that nice now! It’s like everywhere else – has good and bad parts but the bad bits are horrible. At least that power station at Methil has been blown up!
I remember fondly the song ‘Fife’s got everything’ written by John Watt and sung by John and Davie Stuart. I done a wee bit folk myself in the pubs in the 70’s and think I can just about remember the words.
Hi Gogs,
Thanks for the comment. I think Fife’s Got Everything must have been a wee bit before my time, I’ve never heard it and it doesn’t seem to be on You Tube either. I could only get them singing The Kelty Clippie and even I know that one!
