Diamond Jubilee Beacons

I love the idea of lighting beacons on hills to celebrate important occasions, so here are some lovely photos of the Diamond Jubilee beacons. A couple of them are near me, the Edinburgh one and the ‘beacons’ on the East Lomond in Fife.

I’m just sorry that they are from The Mail newspaper, but nobody else seems to have any online at the moment.

  1. I find the thought of beacon-fires elemental, satisfying, thrilling: thankyou so much for the link with all the photos and video. There has been a real spirit of rejoicing about this Jubilee – wonderful to see.

    • Valerie,
Yes, I agree. It’s all over now but I think there will be quite a lot more rejoicing when the Queen makes her way up to Scotland for her usual summer holiday. I might even go through to Edinburgh!

  2. I think that was a great idea. There was a beacon near us and we all went – we had our son and his family staying with us. From where we were (Ford & Etal) we could see 4 more beacons some in Scotland as well as England. I’ll put up some photos soon.

    • Margaret,
That sounds like it must have been a great experience for the kids to remember. Maybe on her 70th anniversary (if we’re all spared!) we’ll have grandchildren to watch beacons with too. I’m looking forward to your photos.
