Flitting

We’ve just managed to get our new internet connection up and running, because at last we have flitted (moved house) and although we were dreading the actual process and it was a long nightmare packing everything up after 26 years in Dalserf, including a cot and pram, the men from the removal company were great and made it as smooth as possible in the circumstances. As you can imagine the sheer volume (no pun intended) of books was the most difficult thing to deal with for them. For us it has been the amount of boxes and we’ve been working our way through them all trying to unpack but it’s going to be a while before we get through it all, we’ve found this move to be far more exhausting than we expected. Oh dear, we’re not as young as we used to be I suppose. More tomorrow I hope.

  1. Katrina,
I wholeheartedly agree that each successive move is much, much harder than the one before. And since we moved here nine years ago, I know I don’t have the stamina I had back then. I think next time I’ll just hire more help, in the way of chucking out, organizing, and to give me emotional support in general.

Fix one room for yourselves and take your time with the rest,
    Judith

    • Judith,
I didn’t think you would ever contemplate moving from your wilderness! I can’t see us moving again, but if we do we’ll definitely be doing a lot of chucking out or selling of stuff before we move! We had rooms which were so full of boxes that we couldn’t get into them but we’re sort of winning the battle now – I think.

  2. Congratulations, Katrina and Jack! All the very best to you both in your new home. I agree with Judith. Organise a place for yourselves and take your time with the rest. Just don’t take as long as me! In eleven years I still haven’t got myself organised, and still have a number of boxes of books, and other things not even unpacked! They are up in the loft right now.
Hope we’ll see photos of your new place soon!

    • Evee,
Thanks for the good wishes. I just thought to myself today, why are you ploughing through all these boxes? So we are just putting them in the garage, if it’s stuff which we don’t need now. So many people never get around to unpacking, even before the next move!

  3. Yes, moving house is most definitely exhausting – but exciting too. It gives you a new outlook on life – I hope you settle in soon and enjoy your new home!

    • Margaret,
It’s beginning to feel like home now that we have some of our prints on the walls. I used to find moving exciting but I think after being in one house for 26 years the change is just daunting more than anything else – I’ll get used to it I suppose!

  4. I was wondering when you were flitting – I look forward to more pictures.

Just do a bit at a time and slowly the boxes will start to disappear and you will remember without thinking about it, which drawer the spoons are in and where the cups are kept.

As for the books – that might take a bit longer.

    • Jo,
We’ve been here just over a week now and it’s beginning to feel like home, but the books are going to take quite a while to sort out, I suspect that we will end up having to build shelves in the garage for some of them – what a thought!
