The Spirit of Hadrian’s Wall

I was just supposed to be taking books back to the library, not looking for any more to borrow, but when I turned away from the counter I was confronted by The Spirit of Hadrian’s Wall – Photographs by Roger Clegg and Words by Mark Richards. It was in a special display so I couldn’t miss it and it was one of those serendipity moments as I had just signed up to do the Hadrian’s Wall course at Futurelearn, obviously I had to borrow it.

It’s a really lovely book with gorgeous atmospheric photographs of the wall and the surrounding area. I imagine it would make a great present for anyone local to Northumberland who would know the subjects well, or just anyone who loves that part of the north of England. The book is mainly photographs but the writing is interesting too.

You can see quite a lot of the inside of the book if you click here.

  1. Katrina,
What a beautiful book cover, and the promise of more photos inside would have me snatching up the book at my library! Fascinating topic and I’ve enjoyed reading your other posts about Hadrian’s Wall.

    • Judith,
It’s not too late to join in the Futurelearn course if you fancy it! But on second thoughts you’re probably too busy with your own teaching courses.

  2. My library system doesn’t have the book, but I just put a hold on a CD with the same title. I have no idea what it will be, so we’ll see.

    Your book looks fascinating.

  3. Hi Katrina

I often walk along Hadrian’s wall, its close to me and a fabulous walk, if you ever fancy walking along it let me know! I should take some pics next time I walk there, they may not be in the same league as this book though!

    • Michelle,
I might just take you up on that as I want to travel that way sometime soonish, although it’ll depend on the weather, I’m not into walking in snow! You are lucky to live so close to the wall, although it is a shame that it’s definitely in England now!!
