The Queensferry Bridge from Fife, Scotland

It’s all go at the construction site of the new Queensferry Crossing, which is what I believe the new bridge spanning the River Forth is being called. You can just see a bit of the garden of a house on the right hand side, they have a great view of it all.

The new bridge is reaching out over to Fife, they seem to be getting on with it quite quickly. In fact they’re way ahead of schedule and well under budget too – how often does that happen?!

I think it’s going to look quite elegant when it’s finished.

On one of our many recent night time journeys over what I suppose must now be called the old Forth Road Bridge, we took a detour down to the edge of the Forth so that I could take some photos by night.

It’s all well lit up as you can see, I think they’re working round the clock on it but there should be no danger of any vessels bumping into it. It’s quite a sight I think.

  1. A feat of architectural brilliance. Though I did just think I hope when they join up both sides it matches!

    • Jo,
It’s always a worry! I saw a photo on the internet recently of a bridge which didn’t meet up. There’s a squinty bit in a local railway track where they had a similar problem, it just means that the passengers get shaken a bit more than they should have though.

  2. When I was in my early teens my parents often took us out from Edinburgh to see the progress of the Forth Road Bridge. It was fascinating to watch the cables being spun across the water, and the final piece of the road being placed accurately! Haven’t seen so much of the building of the Queensferry Crossing, but what I have seen looks pretty good.

    • Evee,
They seem to be getting on with it fast. It seems amazing to me that you would have used the ferry to get over to Fife when you were a youngster, it’s a wonder anyone ever went there!
