I’m not in any hurry to become a granny, as some women often are, which is just as well because McNulty the cat which belongs to my youngest son and his partner is as close as we get to having a grandchild!
I’m not really a cat person myself and McNulty isn’t really a people person, he won’t sit on your lap, you have to feel honoured if he sits beside you on a sofa.
Anyway, when the large cat cushion appeared on his sofa McNulty had a staring contest with it, that’s one he was never going to win, but at some point McN decided that that cat was no threat to him and he’s now quite happy to sit beside the cushion.
We have no idea what McN had been up to while we went out to visit a garden centre, but he came back with very muddy paws and was absolutely shattered. He didn’t even get up to see us out as he normally does, in a very gentlemanly way. Mind you I think he is just making sure that we do indeed leave the premises and he doesn’t have to put up with those interlopers any more!

My goodness! When I saw the picture of McNulty I thought he could be the twin of my own moggy, Marty. Marty is three, and the sweetest little boy you could imagine. I hope that you and McNulty will get to know one another – moggies have a way of inching into one’s affections.
Sandy,
I saw him again today but he was really only interested in getting fed, they make him wait for it though otherwise he would be too fat. He was on a diet to begin with. The vet thinks McN might be a cross between a wild cat and a domestic one as he is so stocky and has a shortish tail. He was a rescue cat and I think he is lucky to have found such a good home. He’s around two years old apparently. I used to be very wary of cats but I’m getting used to him and he seems good natured.
Isn’t he a cutie! I love the cushion. The first cat my husband and I had together was not a people person either though he liked being around people he would not sit in laps and the claws of doom were quick to come out if anyone dared pet him when he didn’t want to be petted. He was a great cat though and I still miss him.
Stefanie,
That sounds like McNulty (named after somebody in The Wire) he puts his paw on your arm if you annoy him, he has his claws out but thankfully he doesn’t use them, I suppose he would if you didn’t stop doing what he doesn’t like though – I’m not going to try that!
I was just thinking when I saw the title – that sounds like the name of a character in The Wire, and it turns out I’m correct in that connection! I love pictures of sleeping cats and I like the story of his initial impression and eventual reconciliation with the cat pillow.
Christy,
I did try to watch the first episode of The Wire but gave up after about 5 minutes as it was late and my brain just couldn’t keep up with the street talk! Gordon and Laura obviously didn’t have the same problem as they are big fans.
I love that cat pillow, but I can see why McNulty might have had problems with it. It’s very like him! I think I might have problems with a perpetually staring cat pillow. Being stared at by a cat is unnerving!
Joan,
I don’t know what is worse, being stared at by a cat or being ignored. I swear that when Laura opened the door to us McN had a look on his face which said – not YOU again! He turned away in disgust.
