Duncansby Head, Caithness

When we were travelling up to catch the ferry to Orkney we ended up being far too early for it, we had factored in a possible couple of hours of delays, obviously we didn’t want to miss the boat! So before stopping off at John O’Groats we drove to nearby Duncansby Head which is the real north eastern tip of Scotland.

It was a bit misty when we were there so we didn’t take many photos.

It’s a shame we didn’t have more time to spare as I would have loved to go on a good long walk along the cliffs there, maybe we’ll manage that another time.

  1. Interesting geology with the rocky cliffs and pinnacles, and that chasm opening to the sea. Good thing you had the time to spare for a side-trip.

    • Valerie,
I would really love to have more time there in the future so we could walk along the cliff path.

  2. So lovely, Katrina, reminding me of our sight of Duncansby Heads in April last year on the best roadtrip in the world, the NC 500. We pined for the Orkneys from John O’Groats then, and are hoping to return to follow in your footsteps, and also St Magnus, next April,……from Downunder.

    • Cathy,
You had exactly the same experience as my son and his girlfriend when they did that roadtrip last year, Orkney was so near but so far! I’ll have some photos of St Magnus Cathedral soon.
