Library Book requests

Some people wake up in the morning regretting having binged on Amazon the previous night before going to bed, but with me it’s quite different. After visiting various favourite blogs I’m apt to get straight onto Fife’s library catalogue to see which books that are recommended by bloggers are actually available to borrow.

The upshot is that I routinely get emails asking me to come and collect the books, and last week five of them turned up on the same day. I already have library books out and NetGalley books to read!

Anyway, I picked up:

Books Again

State of Terror by Hillary Rodham Clinton and Louise Penny

In a Lonely Place by Dorothy B. Hughes

The Sixteen Trees of the Somme
by Lars Mytting

The Swift and the Harrier by Minette Walters

The Bass Rock by Evie Wyld

Mind you they all look like interesting reads – so I’m not really complaining!

I’ve done that with just one or two books that I picked up and thought – why the h did I ask for that?! I feel guilty not reading books that someone has gone to the bother of getting for me – on the other hand it is good for the library stats I suppose!

  1. That’s an interesting selection of books! I’m reading In a Lonely Place now for the Classics Club Spin and read The Swift and the Harrier last year. I haven’t read that particular Lars Mytting book but I’ve read two of his others and thought they were beautifully written.

    • Helen,
That’s good to know about Lars Mytting, I haven’t read anything by him. I probably requested The Swift and the Harrier after reading your review!

  2. Heh, I do the same thing. I have gotten really good this last month or so about using the pause hold feature my library offers. I’ve managed to let the holds trickle in. It feels kind of like I have my finger in the dyke, but it’s working so far! đŸ˜€

    • Stefanie,
I don’t think we have a pause hold feature, but so many of the books I ask for I end up 10th in the queue, or even 37th. They still manage all to come at the same time though!

  3. I want to read State of Terror (someday) and I liked In a Lonely Place a lot. I will wait and see what you think of the others.

    • tracybham,
I have just finished reading State of Terror, and my heart did sink a bit when I realised what it was about, but it’s well written, however I’ll be glad to read a comfort read next!

  4. Read your first two paragraphs and thought, yep that’s me!
During the various lockdowns our library system suspended the usual 3 week loan period so it would take months often for a book I’d reserved to become available. But now they’re coming through really quickly – too quickly because I can’t keep up!

    • BookerTalk,
I can’t keep up either, then there are the NetGalley books that I must get on with. I’m definitely not requesting anything else for quite some time!

    • Whispering Gums,
The Bass Rock is the only one I’m swithering about reading now, I’ve finished all the others.
