For me knitting is mainly a winter pastime, I suppose it takes the place of the gardening that I do in better weather. Last winter I knitted Jack a sort of ‘gansey’ jumper, I don’t think I ever blogged about it. It has been a favourite with him and he has worn it a lot. Anyway I had enough grey wool from that project left-over to make a slipover for myself. I started it last winter and it came to a halt, probably when the better weather arrived. Anyway I picked it up again a few weeks ago and I’m nearly finished it. I really like the design which is described as a basketweave pattern but to me it resembles quilting more than basketweave.
I have a queue of knitting projects at the moment, the next one will be an aran cardigan for a certain wee girl, thankfully there aren’t too many rows involved in the pattern.
Beautiful! My sister is knitting a similar one for me for Christmas in grayish mossy green.
Molly,
Thanks. They are very handy for our climate. I would have preferred a mossy green I think.
I like this pattern and style although if your house is as cold as mine is, you’ll be wearing layers on top.
Constance,
I have four layers on my top half and I wear leggings underneath my trousers. A slipover is handy for Spring, Summer and Autumn here – given our weather. With our heating costs having gone up around 300% since last year (Ukraine and Liz Truss) we’re being very careful with our heating, I’m just very glad that we moved to a modern house as our old Victorian house with high ceilings was impossible to heat!
Lovely, you can’t beat a knitted garment.
Jo,
THanks, knitting is relaxing too, unless I’ve gone wrong somewhere.
That is gorgeous! I love the pattern, and with a natural colour – simply beautiful.
A lot of gardeners seem to knit in wintertime; perhaps it is so that our hands want something to do, they are not used to being idle. I love listening to audiobooks as I knit – do you?
Saila,
Thanks. No, I have often thought about listening to audiobooks but have feared that I might find my attention wandering – I must give it a go though. I remember the days when women especially were not supposed to sit and do nothing or even just watch TV (Scottish Presbyterian). I multi task but admit that sometimes I miss bits on TV!
Love the stitch pattern!
Stefanie,
I really like the effect, I hope to use it on something else, it would look good on a baby blanket.
