Considering that February is such a short month I’m quite surprised that I managed to read and review ten books, although I must admit that The Christmas Truce is very short indeed, but I did read it three times.
Two of my February reads were girls school stories, this is beginning to be a bit of a pilgrimage for me and they’re sort of comfort reads. After being at the Tudor court last month for such a long time I was surprisingly happy to be back there with Alison Weir’s Henry VIII.
Landskipping one of only two non-fiction reads in February was a bit of a disappointment, it was good in parts but mainly I felt it was a bit of a missed opportunity by the author.
A Pink Front Door was very good as were the others that I read but Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings was my favourite. It was a good reading month though.
1. Dimsie Intervenes by Dorita Fairlie-Bruce
2. The Christmas Truce by Carol Ann Duffy
3. More Work for the Undertaker by Margery Allingham
4. The Corner That Held Them by Sylvia Townsend Warner
5. Landskipping by Anna Pavord
6. Little Plum by Rumer Godden
7. Henry VIII: The Heart and the Crown by Alison Weir
8. A Pink Front Door by Stella Gibbons
9. Gerry Goes to School by Elinor M. Brent-Dyer
10. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
I am looking forward to reading about Henry VIII.
My reading for 2023 has been slow and sedate so far.
Jo,
Slow and sedate sounds good to me, I intend to have a relaxed reading year too.
