I was very surprised when Cathy at Kittling: Books asked me if I would like to participate in The Scene of the Blog and although I tend to blog all over the house I thought I might as well do it, you never know, it might be of interest to people.

This photo is of my husband’s study where the main computer is but it is usually only put on at night as I prefer to use my dinky wee Netbook during the day. We got a joiner to build in the shelves which house a lot of Jack’s SF books, going back to the 1950s. I must admit that Cathy’s invitation was a good opportunity to tidy the desk up as it’s usually well stacked with ‘stuff’, but Jack claims that he knows exactly where everything is when it’s messy. He usually does too!
When I blog during the day I tend to sit wherever the light is best in the house. I can’t say that I follow the sun because as I’m in Scotland it’s often very grey. So the photo below is a corner of my dining-room and it’s a handy spot to blog in if I want to keep an eye on what’s going on in the kitchen. The books are mainly cookery and craft books.
The next one is a sofa in the living-room and I must admit that I got a bit of a shock when I saw this one because it looks alarmingly red, it isn’t so noticeable in real life, honestly. Mind you there are often more cushions piled up on the sofa and they are all different colours. There’s a bar of chocolate there too as I sometimes (often) have a sneaky bar on the go.
We recently became empty nesters which takes some getting used to. This room used to be part of my eldest boy’s bedroom, it was his computer area and like a lot of the house it has recently been painted magnolia. I squeezed our old drop-end sofa in there and it’s now a hobby room for me which is great as it keeps most of the fabric, wool and general crafting stuff in one place. It also has good light so is perfect for crafting and blogging and it’s quite a cosy neuk, well with the aid of a blanket anyway. As you can see it’s furnished with home-made cushions.
Well – that’s it. I hope you found this wee peek into my home life entertaining!

I love the hodgepodge of colors and patterns. It all looks so cozy. And a home filled with books and pictures is a very good thing. I feel like I could nestle right in, if invited.
Pearl,
Thanks, I think we need some colour in our life, especially in Scotland. Of course, I’ll expect you to make yourself right at home!
It’s always so much fun to be able to see where our blogger friends live and blog from so when we read your blogs, we can picture you there madly writing.
Your house is lovely and the pillows in the last photo are beautiful. I also like all the paintings and pictures on the walls of your house. I like the red accents in your living room and don’t think it looks too red at all! It looks cozy.
Joan,
I’ll have to take photos of the walls because I have loads of prints on them and even jigsaw puzzles of International exhibitions. I’m still getting used to the house after getting rid of furniture that I know won’t fit into a newer house. Some of the cushions are tapestry kits which I did in the 1970s, the tiger was the first one that I did so it’s really old.
Cosy that’s the word I see!
Peggy,
Thanks, cosy and homely is what I aim for!
A cosy from me as well.
It looks like it is a house with much to tell about its occupants. As my mum says when she worries about how her house looks – it is my stuff around me and that reflects me. If you don’t like it don’t look. Though she still throws old homemade blankets over the back of the settee if the doorbell goes!
Lots of books, and I love all the tapestry cushions. Nice places to curl up in.
Jo,
Thanks. I’m with your mum! Very tidy houses unnerve me. I always think that they seem to be inhabited by people who don’t do anything except just sit and maybe watch TV.
What is the saying? A tidy house…. ah yes, a tidy house is the sign of a wasted life! My house is as untidy and as disorganised as it gets! Sad to say though that it means I won’t let anyone past the front door step! I WILL change… one day…maybe! Too much to do to think of housework! They also say “Housework won’t kill you – but why take the chance?”
Love YOUR house though. It looks SO cosy. I’d like mine to look more like yours!
Evee,
We’ve lived in this house for nearly 25 years and you get to the stage where it’s just ‘home’ . We’re hoping to move somewhere smaller within a year or so, that’ll be exciting!
Evee,
Did you make that saying up? I love it anyway! I’m glad to hear that you also have a lived in house and I know that feeling of being appalled when the doorbell rings.
Thanks for participating in my feature, Katrina!
Cathy,
Thanks for inviting me. I enjoyed it, in fact it wis nae problem at a’.
