Well he has done it – at last. Unfortunately it was at the US Open so I didn’t actually see the match, not having whichever network was showing it from Flushing Meadows. Maybe that’s just as well as in the past I’ve had to leave the room, the stress just being too much to bear.
I love this post match interview with Andy though. It’s about 2 minutes into it before he smiles. You could be forgiven for thinking that he had lost the match, his words just don’t match his face. It looks like he wants to cut his throat, he’s the ‘dour Scot’ personified! It’s a scream.
I can’t make up my mind, is it for real or is he just playing that role for the cameras?
Congratulations!
Peggy Ann,
Maybe he won’t feel so stressed now that he has one Grand Slam!
Congrats. I had it on TV around 3 P.M. when the other guy came back. Couldn’t believe when i turned the channel back a few hours later, it was still on! What volleys.Does he have a nickname with Scot in it so people in America know he’s from Scotland? There’s a great young golf player now from N. Ireland on the TV practically every weekend. Now my Belfast friend will have me following Manchester United. OY
Lorraine,
I can’t imagine how he summons up the energy for it all, even when he looks exhausted. I can’t think of any nickname for Andy, I think one newspaper used to call him the Flying Scot a while ago. Rory McElroy is probably the golfer you’re thinking of. Oh No – half the world seems to support Man United! You’ll have to choose a Scottish team, they’re all rubbish mind you so there’s definitely no ‘glory hunting’ involved!
Glad he has won, I am not sure whether h has got himself into a situation with media and now has to play that role ?
Will we ever see the real him? But them tears at Wimbledon?
Jo,
I think the problem was that he was very young when he started having to give interviews and he was just a typical teenage lad, a bit morose and shy, he’s just about the same age as my two. He was in tears after the Australian Open last year but I think that was only shown in Scotland. I don’t blame him mind you, he’s there to win and the disappointment and frustration would get anyone down!
I think it’s real. And nothing wrong with it , really. Everyone’s different! I was able to watch the match and it was a good one. So glad to see Murray keep his poise and composure.
Anbolyn,
I think he’s just a typical Scottish bloke really, but I do find it funny! As Jack says – the highest compliment most Scotsmen come up with is ‘it’s not bad’ – they tend not to get excited about things.
