National Trust Collections

Just a quick one tonight, as although it’s almost midnight this is the first time I’ve been on a computer all day, I’ve been been busy sorting out my knitting which I hadn’t picked up all summer. I can tell you it was a lot more technical than doing anything on a computer! It’s a sure sign that winter is coming when I start knitting.

Anyway, my National Trust Autumn Magazine arrived in the post last week and it has an article on their collections and a link to their collections site. I’ve always thought that it’s such a shame that you can’t take photos inside National Trust properties, so this is the next best thing. You can have a snoop at a lot of their goodies in the link below, if you’re interested.

  1. Katrina,
I felt so comforted knowing that you were digging through your knitting today! I keep trying to get mine out, and things (all autumn-related) keep getting in the way.

Knit on! I want to knit and listen to a book on the computer or Kindle or Nook, or listen to a broadcast.

    Cozy on up!

    • Judith,
That’s what I love about knitting, it’s usually easy to do two things at once. I’m almost finished a jumper I started about this time last year, where does all the time go! I’m determined to finish it before starting another project though.

  2. I must get back to knitting soon. By the way the last visits I had to NT properties they have allowed people to take photos – maybe it’s not in all their properties, but certainly at Cragside it was OK and at Lindisfarne Castle too.

    • Margaret,
I wonder if it’s different for English NT properties. I can see why they don’t want you to take flash photos of ancient tapestries but even at J.M. Barrie’s house they said NO – and there’s nothing particularly fragile or rare there. Of course that’s Scottish NT. We’re planning to visit Cragside soon and maybe Lindisfarne, inspired by your blogposts!

  3. I was on Lindisfarne a couple of weeks ago and would love to go to the castle some day.
Was also at Hill house, Helensburgh, the other day (Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s house for William Blackie) and no photos allowed there either. Maybe they just want us to buy the guide books! I got one for Hill House. The house is magic! I love it! They almost had to chuck me out at closing time!
Got a lot of blgging (mine and yours) to catch up on! Time just seems to beat me at the moment. I really don’t know how you find time to do all the things you do!!! You’re an inspiration!

    • Evee,
No, I do hardly anything compared with you Evee, I’m sure! We were at Hill House during the ‘summer’. It was absolutely chucking it down and we couldn’t even take photos of the outside of it, it was so bad. It was also amazingly busy. Jack was going to a football match at Dumbarton so we had to head off – too soon for me but we’ll be going back again.
