I’ve had a totally inadvertent break from blogging for a few days, due to being busy with house, garden and family, not necessarily in that order and also I must admit a slight aversion to doing anything on the computer at all, which I think happens to a lot of us from time to time. Anyway, the blogposts are backing up even although I’m way behind on my Goodreads challenge, but I’m not worried about that because I’ll catch up during the long days of winter.
We took delivery of our new summerhouse or gazebo as the company we bought it from calls it and in no time they had built it completely. There was a bit of confusion as I thought it was going to be rectangular but it turned out to be hexagonal. I’ve decided that I like it though and we are going to line the inside with tongue and groove wood as we did to our old one which we left at our old garden. It makes a big difference when it’s done, I won’t be moving any furniture or books into it until that is completed.
Whilst I was giving the windows a bit of a clean I heard a chattering and screeching noise coming from next door. It turned out to be an altercation between a crow and a grey squirrel. The crow was obviously taking exception to the squirrel sitting on top of a nearby roof. That squirrel wasn’t for moving though, it was enjoying playing king of the castle too much and it stayed there for ages after the crow had flown off. Amazingly a lovely wee red squirrel ran in front of us one day last week as we were walking in Balbirnie woods so they must be making a comeback, they’re much nicer than the grey ones.
Otherwise I haven’t been up to much. I watched some of Wimbledon but I was sadly disappointed when Andy Murray was knocked out so early on. I’ve seen some of the World Cup although I’m not a great football fan, I generally just watch the penalty shoot outs. Jack has been fairly glued to the screen and has only missed two of the games I think. I’ve seen hardly anything that I intended to watch on TV but I did catch Montalbano last night, it’s good from an armchair traveller’s point of view, I get to see some of Sicily and there’s some murder and comedy to enjoy too. Have you been watching anything on TV which I should give a go on catchup?
The summerhouse is lovely! Your garden is coming along so nice. Wish I could sit in it with you.
Peggy,
Just you bide your time hen, everything comes to those who wait – or something like that!
I LOVE IT!
I just started watching ENDEAVOR – the young Inspector Morse. Loved the whole series- Morse, Inspector Lewis and now Endeavor. The scenery (Oxford) and background music are unique for me. The new Sherlock has started. I know Benedict Cumberbatch is very hot in UK from Pinterest, but the series is too intense and depressing for me. This from someone who’s children since they learned to walk, know when the music for Masterpiece Mystery begins, leave Mama alone.
Lorraine,
I’ve really enjoyed Endeavour too and we visited Oxford for the first time last year as I wanted to see where Morse had been made. It was much more vibrant than I thought it would be, not as sleepy and rural an atmosphere as Cambridge which we visited a few days later.
The summerhouse looks like a lovely, quiet place to sit and relax. It will be especially nice when it’s surrounded by your full-grown garden.
Joan,
It’s really much nicer than the old summerhouse and bigger with a higher ceiling. I’m really looking forward to everything maturing in the garden, it’ll take around 4 years maybe – according to Evee anyway and I think that’s about right, given our weather.
Lovely summerhouse and pergola/bench Katrina. A friend of mine is erecting a large shed as an art studio and she is also lining it with tongue and groove – a big job! Your garden is really taking shape now, and in such a short time. I do like the plants and veggies you have put in; you’ve inspired me and I’ve bought a tiny wooden greenhouse filled with tomato and cucumber plants.
I hope you see more wee red squirrels soon!
I also love the Montalbano series and all the Scandinavian crime.
Linda,
It’s amazing the difference that tongue and groove makes. I hope you are successful with your tomatoes and cucumbers. My greenhouse was one of the many things which we left behind at the old house, and as usual we walked into a house which had been stripped bare!
I love the Montalbano series too, but tell me please, does the actor playing him change at some point? I’m sure the other one is better looking!
Love your gazebo! Wish I could fit one in my garden! Your garden is fair coming on! Good luck with the tonguing and grooving!
I bought a rose today, and it has a scent! Have to confess it’s still in its pot! I don’t normally go for roses but this one was so beautiful. It’s called Silver Jubilee.
Your summerhouse is so pretty! If only I had room in my garden for something like that. Have you sat out reading in it yet?
Stefanie,
I haven’t sat in it yet as it is completely empty. I want to get the tongue and groove cladding on the inside of it before moving any bookcases or chairs in. I’m getting the wood for that tomorrow so hopefully it’ll be finished soon.
Summerhouse looks lovely, but do you have much summer there, says she perhaps a little cheekily?
I watched quite a bit of Wimbledon. Loved the men’s final. We Aussies have become used in recent years to having no one in the last week so have got over losing interest when ours go out. It’s been good for our souls I think!
Whispering Gums,
Thanks, as it happens we have had a few really hot days this past week, about 23 C and glaring sunshine, you will laugh when I say it is too hot for me!
One good thing about your favourite losing early is that there is no stress involved after that and you can just sit back and enjoy it all. Murray had better not make a habit of losing like that though!
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
