Happy Winter Solstice, I always look forward to this day as I feel that we are at least on the way to the lovely long light summer nights that we enjoy here in Scotland, and that doesn’t half cheer me up.
You might find the video below interesting. We visited Maeshowe Chambered Cairn a few years ago when we had a holiday in Orkney, we enjoyed the islands so much we’re going again this coming summer – all going well! You can read about Maeshowe and the Winter Solstice here.
Happy Solstice!
Stefanie,
Thanks, same to you and James and all the gals!
I’ve really been longing to get past the shortest day this year. I think that Covid stopped us making the most of the long summer days (even though here in Herefordshire, they’re not as long as your Scottish ones), so when the nights started drawing in we felt cheated. The misty, murky weather we’ve been having hasn’t helped either.
Janet,
We felt exactly the same, I love the long light summer nights here and feel that it really does double our lifetime in the summer. Today we shut our curtains at 3 pm today as it was so dark!
Belated happy soltice to you, Katrina. And a happy, healthy and safe Christmas and New Year.
Sandra,
The same to you and yours!
I look forward to longer days also, although our days are not nearly shortened as much as yours.
tracybham,
Sometimes in the winter we shut the curtains at 3 pm as it is so dark and gloomy, in fact we did that on the solstice.
