It’s ages since I’ve linked to anything from the Guardian Review, in fact I haven’t even had the time or inclination to read it, I’ve just been too busy with domestic stuff. Anyway, here’s a selection that I thought some people might find quite interesting.
The MY HERO article is by Michael Ondaatje and Jhumpa Lahin and their hero is the writer Mavis Gallant. I must admit that I haven’t read anything by her, but it looks like I should rectify that.

I enjoyed this roundup very much! I linked to a few of the articles and had a wonderful time. I love the Vikings connection. As a matter of fact, believe it or not, I’m very curious about the Viking impact on Britain, but I’ve never found a detailed book about it. You know the kind–a bit scholarly, newish, basing its facts on the latest archaeological evidence as well as all the older knowledge.
Hope you and Jack are keeping your heads above water these days. Just keep reading, you two! Books cure a multitude of ills, including the disappointments of house-hunting.

We’ve had our offer on a house accepted verbally and it should be confirmed in writing soon, so we’re feeling relieved now! I have at least one book on Vikings, I’ll dig it out and also have a look around to see what’s available now.
